Waste leaves. Soil and fuel come back.
About 86% of Unguja’s municipal waste is organic. Hangaya turns that stream into compost, soil and fertilizer at the Matemwe Organics Yard, then sells it back to the gardens it came from. Phase 2 takes sorted plastic and makes diesel-range oil for hotel generators — at a discount to pump diesel. Carbon Programs are not the product. The product is what the hotel can use and show.
A Story The Guest Can Walk Through
North-coast resorts are selling the same beach. What they cannot copy is a closed loop on their own grounds: clippings and kitchen greens collected, composted on-island, and returned as soil for the same palms and beds. Sustainability pages that only mention a distant landfill or a future credit do not photograph. A garden fed by the hotel’s own waste does.
Hangaya writes the loop into the landscape contract so the grounds team and the sustainability manager are on the same invoice. Use it on the website, in the welcome book, and on a small garden sign if the hotel wants one. We do not invent numbers for their ESG report. We give them a visible practice.
